Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Financials, IT and Energy sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.36% to hit a new 52-week high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Costa Group Holdings Ltd (AX:CGC), which rose 7.19% or 0.315 points to trade at 4.695 at the close. Meanwhile, BT Investment Management Ltd (AX:BTT) added 3.86% or 0.415 points to end at 11.175 and Aurizon Holdings Ltd (AX:AZJ) was up 3.42% or 0.180 points to 5.440 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Asaleo Care (AX:AHY), which fell 7.87% or 0.140 points to trade at 1.640 at the close. Galaxy Resources Ltd (AX:GXY) declined 4.84% or 0.023 points to end at 0.443 and Saracen Mineral Holdings Ltd (AX:SAR) was down 4.42% or 0.048 points to 1.028.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 546 to 518 and 397 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 5.03% to 12.702 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.37% or 4.65 to $1258.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.26% or 0.14 to hit $52.94 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.20% or 0.11 to trade at $55.87 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7500, while AUD/JPY fell 0.23% to 83.03.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 100.98.
