At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 1.11%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Syrah Resources Ltd (AX:SYR), which rose 8.60% or 0.120 points to trade at 1.515 at the close. Meanwhile, Mayne Pharma Group Ltd (AX:MYX) added 5.71% or 0.060 points to end at 1.110 and Lynas Corporation Ltd (AX:LYC) was up 5.35% or 0.095 points to 1.870 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Emeco Holdings Ltd (AX:EHL), which fell 8.77% or 0.025 points to trade at 0.260 at the close. Seven West Media Ltd (AX:SWM) declined 4.94% or 0.040 points to end at 0.770 and Invocare Ltd (AX:IVC) was down 3.32% or 0.410 points to 11.940.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 591 to 514 and 332 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 4.95% to 19.128.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.03% or 0.40 to $1235.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.41% or 0.28 to hit $67.31 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.49% or 0.38 to trade at $77.28 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.08% to 0.7098, while AUD/JPY rose 0.18% to 79.47.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 96.24.
