Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals & Mining, Materials and Resources sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 1.07%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Webjet Ltd (ASX:WEB), which rose 7.44% or 0.41 points to trade at 5.92 at the close. Meanwhile, Magellan Financial Group Ltd (ASX:MFG) added 7.18% or 1.18 points to end at 17.61 and Flight Centre Ltd (ASX:FLT) was up 6.71% or 1.27 points to 20.21 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Appen Ltd (ASX:APX), which fell 7.41% or 0.66 points to trade at 8.25 at the close. Nearmap Ltd (ASX:NEA) declined 6.12% or 0.085 points to end at 1.305 and Nanosonics Ltd (ASX:NAN) was down 4.76% or 0.24 points to 4.80.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 834 to 600 and 361 ended unchanged.
Shares in Appen Ltd (ASX:APX) fell to 3-years lows; losing 7.41% or 0.66 to 8.25. Shares in Nanosonics Ltd (ASX:NAN) fell to 52-week lows; losing 4.76% or 0.24 to 4.80.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 0.94% to 15.666.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.31% or 5.65 to $1816.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.59% or 0.54 to hit $90.78 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.67% or 0.62 to trade at $92.07 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.11% to 0.7117, while AUD/JPY rose 0.22% to 82.20.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.31% at 95.685.
