Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.29%

Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Energy, IT and Telecoms Services sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.29%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Pro Medicus Ltd (ASX:PME), which rose 16.14% or 4.250 points to trade at 30.580 at the close. Meanwhile, Vocus Group Ltd (ASX:VOC) added 9.59% or 0.280 points to end at 3.200 and oOh!Media Ltd (ASX:OML) was up 9.33% or 0.250 points to 2.930 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Idp Education Ltd (ASX:IEL), which fell 10.42% or 2.040 points to trade at 17.530 at the close. Webjet Ltd (ASX:WEB) declined 8.30% or 1.150 points to end at 12.700 and St Barbara Ltd (ASX:SBM) was down 7.37% or 0.260 points to 3.270.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 652 to 542 and 357 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 4.56% to 15.541.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.31% or 4.75 to $1510.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.11% or 0.06 to hit $55.62 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.22% or 0.13 to trade at $60.17 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.17% to 0.6768, while AUD/JPY fell 0.42% to 71.97.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 98.213.
