Investing.com -- Airlines are up as we cling to any reason to hope the new normal will die and be replaced by the old normal ASAP.
American Airlines (NASDAQ:AAL) will start spraying airplane cabins with a disinfectant that has proved to fight Covid-19 for up to seven days, and could ease the public's fears over the spread of the virus while traveling.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved Allied BioScience's disinfectant, SurfaceWise2, for Texas-based customers.
American Airlines rose 8.2%, United Airlines Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:UAL) was up 8% and Delta Air Lines Inc (NYSE:DAL) rose 7.8%.
SurfaceWise2 may eventually be used in offices, schools, gymnasiums and other high-traffic areas.
“SurfaceWise2 creates an invisible barrier on surfaces, which physically breaks down and kills virus cells,” said Dr. Charles Gerba, a leading infectious disease expert, American Airlines said in a statement. “This helps protect passengers and crew members against the transmission of coronavirus via surfaces, particularly on high-touch areas such as seats, armrests, tray tables and overhead bin doors.”
The disinfectant will be paired with the use of face coverings, thorough cleaning protocols, and HEPA filters.
