U.S. House lawmakers secure enough votes to pass Trump impeachment rules

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives secured enough votes on Thursday to pass legislation setting up next steps in the fast-moving impeachment process involving Republican President Donald Trump.

The vote is the first formal test of support for the inquiry that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi launched on Sept. 24. The impeachment inquiry focuses on whether Trump pressured Ukraine into helping him in his 2020 re-election campaign, a charge the president denies.

I think the Democrats just lost the 2020 election. this move shows that when you attack the protected ones, they push back also. biden is not clean and probably there are others too.
Right on. Let the "shoot themselves in the feet". It will fail in the Senate.
Total waste of time and resources. Silent majority will speak in 2020 election.
The Confederates have spoken.
dems are the party of slavery ,the kkk and jim crow laws.
go read a book.
he's absolutely correct. do your own research. the facts are there.
For all those people who don't know anything about the process. Cross examination happens on the Senate not the house. The Republicans were the one that pass the rule that they can hold the inquiry in private which both Democrats and Republicans members of specific committees are on those private inquiry. Then those members relay that information to their fellow members. Then the house votes on impeachment with whatever information was found during the inquiry, then it goes to the Senate we're ever senator can do cross examination and then vote. Also, this passing of the vote just to do an inquiry is not in the rules, pelosi did it to please Republicans, because they were crying about the rules they themselves created and Democratic are using.See Republicans are just talking about the process because they don't want to talk about the evidence that even a purple heart army commander who was in the call stated that Trump did Quid pro quo.
It's misleading though. The Inital Impeachment Inquery is supposed to remain prive. meaning you cant cherry pick what information release to the press. Additionall you cant subpeona under an inqury. This i
R DAVID, the difference is that what you're talking about is legitimate requests for the benefit of the country. Trump's request is for direct PERSONAL and POLITICAL assistance to affect the outcome of the current election campaign. That's what makes it illegal.
Yes, on behalf of the US Government and on behalf of i's constituents.  NOT on behalf of a politician.  That's abuse of the role of the office.  Plain and simple.
Good. Now the house will not be allowed to hold secret meetings, and disallow cross examination of witnesses.
You clearly have no idea what you're talking about or how investigations work.
maybe they forget her script again and she's gona change to impeaching president bush...
yeah I agree with Peter Stypa, you don't know anything about the process. Cross examination happens on the Senate not the house. The Republicans were the one that pass the rule that they can hold the inquiry in private which both Democrats and Republicans members of specific committees are on those private inquiry. Then those members relay that information to their fellow members. Then the house votes on impeachment then it goes to the Senate we're everyone can do cross examination.
the same rule of law for due process that the Democrats blatantly disregard?
What are you talking about, how about when Clinton went through the impeachment process?
what about it?
a complete bs farce, this is just a blatant political attempt to remove a legally elected president. they are usurping the will of the people because they know they have no chance to beat him in 2020.
take a civics class
Did you say the same thing when they did impeachment on Clinton?
DrFunkenstein, that's pure nonsense. This has nothing to do with the 2016 election and everything to do with an immoral president who abuses the power of the office for his own self interest. And as for "the will of the people" it was actually Hillary that won the popular vote, which actually more accurately reflects the will of the people than the electoral college.
Would not need to go here but for the whining of House and Senate Republicans... Oh and Fox News
right! now they have the vote now what will they whine about
Must be proud of lying schifff.
democrats having nothing to offer...it is their only cards
If you call the rule of law and basic competency nothing.
let's just go into CIVIL WAR while we're at it..... SMH. such a broken Congress, tearing itself apart instead of working TOGETHER.
Exactly! Democrats lack both.
