WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department on Friday said it has arrested 18 people and charged them for alleged crimes committed during recent anti-racism protests in Portland.

In a statement, the department said all 18 had made a first appearance in federal court and were released pending jury trials or other court proceedings.

Billy Williams (NYSE:WMB), the Portland United States Attorney, said that five people were charged for allegedly committing crimes including assaulting a federal officer, trespassing and creating a disturbance during protests on the night of July 20-21.

Prosecutors said that seven people have been charged in connection with criminal conduct during a July 21-22 night protest. Another six were charged for their alleged actions in protests during the night of July 22-23.

The federal government has deployed teams of specially equipped agents to the Portland protests, drawing criticism from Democrats and civil liberties groups over excessive force and federal overreach by the Trump administration.

Who said America is not great again?
Assault that is that is the result of provocation is a natural response. As a reminder, the agents were unidentifiable in camo attire without insigma, badges, and ID of any kind. The vehicles they used were unmarked.
This was by definition a staged military style special ops operation. Attired in camo without visible identification, ICE and Homeland Security agents were deployed to Portland without advance warning and discussion to state authorities. Detainees were not by definition arrested when apprehended without being changed and brought to unknown locations in unmarked vehicles.
Arrested by federal agents for alleged crimes that are not federal.
How is assaulting a federal employee not a federal crime?
It's hard to know they're federal employees when they're not wearing uniforms with badges or insignia, and are grabbing you without stating that you're under arrest, or what you're being taken away for, and being thrown into unmarked vehicles.
democrat letting violent criminals out of prison and looters and rioters take over the streets, meanwhile arrest people on the beach and force small businesses to shut down while crowded walmarts are fine to stay open
go get em Trump, #Trump2020
Good start.
having consequences for your actions, something democrats are not familiar with
Something Trump is definitely not familiar with, more like it.
