Six Michigan players scored in double figures Friday night, leading the fourth-ranked Wolverines to a 103-91 win over Iowa in the Big Ten opener for both teams in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Michigan (8-1, 1-0 Big Ten) overcame a career-high 44 points from Iowa junior center Luka Garza by getting contributions from a variety of sources.
Freshman Franz Wagner scored 18 points, seniors Jon Teske and Zavier Simpson each had 16 points, junior Isaiah Livers scored 14 points, junior Eli Brooks had 13 points, and sophomore Brandon Johns provided 12 points off of the bench for Michigan.
The Wolverines bounced back after taking their first loss of the season Tuesday at No. 1 Louisville in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
No. 1 Louisville 64, Pittsburgh 46
The visiting Panthers went through two long stretches without scoring, and Jordan Nwora had 19 points to lead the Cardinals to a victory at Louisville, Ky.
After letting a 14-point halftime lead dwindle to five points, Louisville (9-0, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) went on a 13-0 run to take control of the game with a 60-42 lead with 4:39 left in regulation.
Pitt (7-3, 1-1) went scoreless for a stretch of 5:43 during Louisville's knockout run. The Panthers also went without scoring in the last 5:35 of the first half when the Cardinals built a 35-21 lead. The Cardinals got 13 points and 11 rebounds from Malik Williams (NYSE:WMB) while Ryan McMahon added 11 points. Pitt's Xavier Johnson had a team-high 15 points and Eric Hamilton added 10.
No. 10 Duke 77, Virginia Tech 63
Wendell Moore Jr. scored all 12 of his points in the second half as the Blue Devils overcame a rough opening stretch to win their ACC opener with a decision over the Hokies in Blacksburg, Va. Duke went to a smaller lineup for a stretch in the second half and finally went ahead -- 48-47 -- for the first time since the opening two minutes.
Tre Jones poured in 15 points and Vernon Carey Jr. had 12 points for Duke (9-1, 1-0), which was the only ACC team without a conference game in the first week of the season. Jordan Goldwire added 10 points off the bench.
P.J. Horne scored 15 points and Wabissa Bede and Tyrece Radford had 12 points each for Virginia Tech (6-3, 1-1). Team scoring leader Landers Nolley managed just seven points and committed nine turnovers for the Hokies, who have lost three games in a row since knocking off Michigan State in the Maui Invitational.
