NBA notebook: Mavs reportedly getting Warriors C Cauley-Stein

A trade is in the works that will send Golden State Warriors 7-foot center Willie Cauley-Stein to the Dallas Mavericks, ESPN reported Friday.

Citing league sources, ESPN reported the Warriors will receive a 2020 second-round draft pick.

The Mavericks need a backup big man after losing Dwight Powell, who ruptured his right Achilles tendon during Tuesday night's 110-107 home loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. Powell is out for the rest of the season.

Cauley-Stein has averaged 7.9 points and 6.2 rebounds over 41 games in his first season with the Warriors. Dallas on Friday also sent forward Isaiah Roby to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Justin Patton. The Mavericks also will receive cash, according to The Athletic, which cited league sources.

--Chicago Bulls forward Lauri Markkanen will be sidelined at least four to six weeks after an MRI exam of his right hip revealed an early stress reaction of his right pelvis, the team announced.

The severity of the injury was learned after Markkanen underwent the MRI at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago on Thursday. It is not known how long Markkanen has been dealing with the injury.

Markkanen recorded 21 points in 34 minutes as the Bulls posted a 117-110 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.

--Injuries continue to debilitate the Philadelphia 76ers, but there's hope on the horizon regarding All-Star center Joel Embiid.

Embiid practiced for the first time since undergoing surgery for a torn ligament in his left hand, and is hoping to be back next week. During a full practice, Embiid went through contact drills and, according to the Sixers, will be reassessed on Monday.

"Just trying to get back into it and make the progress that's necessary," Embiid said after a lengthy workout following practice. "But I feel good. ... I think my finger feels good."
