Inclement weather caused the postponement of Monday's game between the host New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field.
The game was postponed to Tuesday, where the teams will play a single-admission doubleheader starting at 4:10 p.m.
Monday's decision was announced roughly two hours before the scheduled first pitch. The game was supposed to open a four-game series against the National League East rival Phillies.
The rainout comes one day after the Mets and Miami Marlins tried to begin their scheduled game amid steady rainfall before umpires suspended play just seven minutes into the first inning. The decision meant Mets starter Marcus Stroman, who threw nine pitches, would have to wait another five days before his next turn in New York's rotation.
The Mets' season-opening series against the Washington Nationals also had to be rescheduled due to several positive COVID-19 tests for Washington -- meaning the Mets have managed to play only five of their first 10 scheduled games this season.
