Alabama freshman running back Trey Sanders suffered a significant foot injury in Thursday's practice and is expected to miss the entire season, according to AL.com.
Coach Nick Saban said only that Sanders would be out "indefinitely," adding Saturday that senior linebacker Joshua McMillon suffered a knee injury in the scrimmage earlier in the day. Saban said the injury was "most concerning."
McMillon will be further evaluated.
He has been projected to start alongside returning starter Dylan Moses at an otherwise thin group of inside linebackers.
--Florida sophomore defensive back John Huggins has been dismissed from the team, a school spokesman confirmed to multiple media outlets.
Huggins was accused of choking a female tutor on campus last October, according to school records released last week, although he was not charged with a crime.
Huggins has not been in camp with the Gators, although coach Dan Mullen said it wasn't related to the incident last fall. A spokesman said Huggins' absence was due to a "family issue," according to the Orlando Sentinel, which was the first to report the dismissal.
--Kentucky redshirt sophomore linebacker Josh Paschal, diagnosed a year ago with malignant melanoma, has finished his immunotherapy treatments and is ready to get back to work.
Wildcats coach Mark Stoops said he's easing Paschal back into play but having a hard time doing so.
"Josh is remarkable," Stoops told reporters after a scrimmage. "We talk about it a lot but it's the truth. He's a real inspiration to a lot of us. He got done with his treatment last Wednesday and sat out Thursday and Friday he came right back out there. It was hot. It was one of those days that were very humid and hot. He got a little sick. But he doesn't want to be out long."
--Notre Dame junior tight end Cole Kmet suffered a broken collarbone in practice Thursday and will miss the start of the season, coach Brian Kelly confirmed.
Kelly said the timetable ranges from four to 10 weeks, but he is hopeful Kmet can return for the second game of the season against visiting New Mexico on Sept. 14. One week later, the Fighting Irish play one of the biggest nonconference games of the season at Georgia.
Kmet caught 15 passes for 162 yards last season behind starter Alize Mack and is projected to be a key part of the offense in 2019. He was a Top 100 recruit in the 2017 class, per the 247Sports composite rankings.
