Shooting in Texas capital leaves 14 wounded; one suspect still at large

(Reuters) -Fourteen people were wounded after two men opened fire at each other in a busy entertainment district in downtown Austin, Texas early on Saturday, police said, adding that one of the suspected shooters remained at large.

Gunfire erupted at about 1:30 a.m. in the Sixth Street area, a popular nightlife destination in the state capital, Austin Police Department Interim Chief Joseph Chacon said in a news conference on Saturday afternoon.

"This does appear to be an isolated incident between two parties," he said. "Most of the victims were innocent bystanders."

Police officers who were nearby rushed to the scene where they applied tourniquets and performed CPR on victims, Chacon said.

Two of the injured were in hospital in critical condition and the other 12 were in stable condition. There were no deaths, Chacon said.

The Austin Police Department said on Saturday evening that one suspect had been arrested with the help of the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, and that officers were continuing to follow up on leads to apprehend the remaining suspect.

this is just the beginning. the Republican Texas legislature and governor are going to be held responsible for these kind of incidents. the're the ones that made it easier for crazy people to start a shooting war with each other. the Democrats in the state warned them what there gun happy policies would do to Texas and Texans and now it's happening.
Take a look at the stats, annual gun shootings in the US are always going up, and faster in the past 5 years than ever before. Clearly, political affiliation has no impact on this one, unless the rhetoric of hate and victimization being foisted by both parties has something to di with it. Might be time for us to drop the party line and read a little.

the majority of democrats didn't put guns in crazy people's hands. the Republicans did that al by themselves.
I think the media somewhat morally responsible for some of these shootings. If you frighten and agitate the public to death, bad things will result. If you plant bad seeds in a stupid mind, they'll grow. It's like the Taoist teacher said, "he who sows bad seed, commits the true evil." On another note, there are many worse ways to kill than with a gun. Take those away, and some disgruntled employee might play Death Race 2000 (1975 version) with his Chevy dually at the company picnic. Imo, it's more important to treat the cause, that write another law. A law cures nobody.

It's funny people still argue against the need for gun ownership to be restricted seeing it is evident that to curb mass shootings, you need fewer guns not more, but logical reasoning is seriously lacking in today's world so why argue. Virtually everything has been politicized from climate change to covid-19 and the politicians (both right-wing and left-wing) have been able to obfuscate people's reasoning, so you find someone telling you 2+2 is not equal to 4 when it clearly is.

Scot House, except most mass shootings are not done by previous criminals. Gangsters tend to ***other gangsters. It's so-called 'regular' crazy (or radicalized) people who end up committing mass shootings. So it does matter. Common sense there bud.
