WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Systemic racism and high unemployment levels among black and Hispanic Americans create a drag on the U.S. economy, Dallas Federal Reserve President Robert Kaplan said on Sunday.

"A more inclusive economy where everyone has an opportunity will mean faster workforce growth, faster productivity growth and will grow faster," Kaplan said on CBS' "Face the Nation."

Kaplan said he agreed with his counterpart at the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank, Raphael Bostic - the Fed’s only African-American policymaker - who on Friday called for an end to racism and laid out ways the U.S. central bank can help.

The comments by the Fed policymakers follow weeks of nationwide protests against police brutality and racism after the May 25 death of George Floyd, a black man, in Minneapolis. The white police officer who knelt on Floyd's neck has been fired and charged with murder.

"It's in the interest of the U.S.," Kaplan said. "The fastest-growing demographic groups in this country are blacks and Hispanics. If they don't participate equally, then we're going to grow more slowly."

Kaplan said the Dallas Fed and the Federal Reserve System have been working for years to improve skills training and education for blacks and Hispanics, who have long endured a higher level of unemployment than whites.

Overall unemployment, which spiked dramatically during the shutdowns, is on the way down, Kaplan said, adding that he expects to see positive job growth starting this month.

He said fiscal policy, which is set by Congress, will be a critical element of the recovery, including unemployment benefits, possibly "restructured to create more incentives for people to go back to work," and benefits to state and local governments.

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow cited positive signs as the economy reopens, telling CNN, "We are in the recovery stage."

Can not remember any one at least admitting thrre is racism in American system every one say we are great nation they shoild say Great white American nation.
Has this guy been asleep for the last three years before the Scamdemic!??!
This guy is a Moh Rawn
YES! I totally agree with "Systemic racism". But he forgot to mention that it's BLACK RACISM AND BLACK SUPREMACY AND BLACK "POWER". NIGERians think that white owe them and that white have to PAY FOREVER FOR BLACK SLAVERY!!!! NIGERians ARE SO WRONG!!!
Sales of Afro sheen and watermelons have skyrocketed!
He should take a knee and donate money to this criminal Floyd's family. White people owe something to other races, as our media teaches us. USA went crazy, luckily I am not there...
Soros is dojng this. We need to get rid of him from this world
“Systemic racism” = catch phrase fallacy fabricated by the dems to maintain and grow their power.
When systems and government policies are designed to suppress and deny equality and equal opportunity for an ethnic people, that is systematic/institutionalize racism, eg. slavery, Jim Crow Laws, mass incarceration!! Everyone should be treated equally based on merit and character, not one's ethnicity. The system is not broken, it is operating as intended. Let not succumb to old stereotypes and rhetoric.
political correctness gone mad, though starts with good intention
first assaulting random asians for CV19 and now spreading CV19 by looting asian stores... things happening for real in Queens
Content of character, not the color of skin, is what defines successful people.
Systemic racism was created against white people with affrimative action. The fact that minorities are given an advantage in obtaining education and jobs based on skin color is true racism
The problems of crime and economics in the black community have to do with the welfare system. A black father cannot compete with uncle Sam as a provider. Sam pays the rent, he buys the groceries, he pays the utilities, and he breaks the family.
It was designed that way and it has been a complete success for the Democratic Party. LBJ said it best , "they will be voting Democratic for generations ". Disgusting, but true.
How do we measure systemic racism?
well leys put ot as simple as this, since the idea of a whole people being oppressed is foreign to trump supporters. We are all bias! We all want what's best for our families, and we all dont mind getting our hands dirty.........but for some odd reason, "WE" are always categorized as "shiftless, lazy, good for nothing, and maga kings favorite animals or thugs. Regardless of how successful i become, even as a law abiding citizen. i can be stopped, frisked, and or murdered, by the dame people who I am paying to protect and serve me.........but of course again, you wouldn't know anything about that feat/feeling, why???????? "SYSTEMIC RACISM!"
Criminal behavior slows down economic growth.
Actually most crime in the US is committed by black males 18-49, therefore it's like 4% of the population commits over 50% of all violent crime.
This is obvious to anyone not sleeping thru life..
very well, touche
recomend to all to have their DNA test done to find ou how much white is left over....
OMG! LMAO... :)
Another good excuse that the economy will be in funk for awhile longer....Thanks Mr. Fedman.
Sounds like manipulation. He must be shorting the NASDAQ.
By a different person...of course.
and looting asian communities?
Floyd was murdered, no questions about it. it was disgusting. but systemic racism is nonsense. black parents need to teach their kids respect and make sure they go to school and don't hang out with gangsta wannabes
systemic racism does not exist. If it did blacks would not be able to vote, obtain education, obtain jobs or but consumer goods
riiight and Ben Carson was a very successful brain surgeon because he is white I suppose and there are thousands of other hard working successful humble blacks
And Many, Many More.
There are just as many poor white people as poor black or gay people.
I dont follow the logic that keeps getting amplified my the media, who want race wars.. Government and media created these situations, and then appoint themselves as problem solvers.. Both real and their FAKE ones.
I don't follow your logic that "the media wants race wars". Please explain.
Utilization of the amygdala around the police is not a good survival strategy. Neither is militarizing the police. Both sides can meet in the middle.
LMAO, systemic racism isn't real.
