Investing.com - Investors seem much more confident midday that the Federal Open Market Committee will cut rates by a quarter point this afternoon, based on a measure of fed funds futures contracts.

  • There is now about a 76% chance the FOMC will lower rates to a range of 1.75% to 2% from 2% to 2.25%, according to Investing.com’s Fed Rate Monitor Tool.
  • The probability of a quarter-point cut was at more than 90% just last week. But the odds dropped sharply this week, falling to below 50% at the close of stock trading Tuesday.
  • Stocks were lower ahead of the decision, with the S&P 500 off 0.3%. The 10-Year Treasury yield fell 0.058 to 1.756%.

How the rate cut affect Oil
Unlikely to cut, Fed does not want to use up toolbox so early
use up toolbox? we could go negative and keep cutting. honestly, we should go negative since almost everyone else is. why are we paying people to hold our debt when Germany is being paid to have people hold theirs? on top of that, it's not like rate cuts are the only tool they have. we have plenty in the toolbox, and shouldn't be sitting on such an excess of tools to use. The FED is failing horribly. nothing but a 50 basis point cut and an apology for being so negligent as to raise rates three times as a trade war is starting. data dependency fails when trade war effects and currency manipulation are skewing the numbers.
the negative bond rates are the quote if held to maturity..its not a negative coupon
