Qualcomm and Telefonica Collaborate To Develop XR and Metaverse

  • Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) partners with Telefonica (NYSE:TEF) to leverage extended reality.
  • The collaboration opens up new possibilities for both companies.
  • “XR will redefine the way we live, work and socialize,” says the vice president of Qualcomm.

Qualcomm, the world’s leading wireless tech innovator, and Telefonica, a mobile network infrastructure provider, announced their collaboration to leverage Extended Reality (XR) and Metaverse.

According to the purview of the agreement, the duo will leverage Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Spaces XR developer platform and Telefonica’s advanced fixed and mobile network infrastructure to develop the XR ecosystem.

This collaboration will open new opportunities for both companies. It gives Telefonica the opportunity to offer new experiences to customers by merging the digital and analog worlds and supports Qualcomm’s developers to unlock the full potential of AR on Snapdragon Spaces.

Moreover, the agreement includes that the two leading companies in their scope of work will explore business opportunities jointly.

Notably, the fact that both companies are working to bring Snapdragon Spaces to different initiatives is reflected in the comments of their respective representatives.

Daniel Hernández, VP of devices and consumer IoT at Telefonica, commenting on the new possibilities that the partnership will open up, said:

XR will bring a new dimension to the digital and real world, allowing people to communicate, do business, socialize, and be entertained in a new way.

Hernandez furthermore added that they are prepping for the future by upgrading equipment and building the infrastructure to bring innovative new devices and services to their customers. In addition, he said that this collaboration with Snapdragon Spaces will help fuel the growth of the emerging XR ecosystem.
