National Geographic, one of the most established magazines around the globe, aped into the NFT game with the Nat Geo Genesis NFT collection. The nature-focused magazine gathered 16 prolific photographers to offer their take on the break of dawn and immortalize the sunshine with the help of blockchain technology.

GM: Daybreak Around the World encompasses what “Good Morning” means to people worldwide and aligns well with the magazine’s art of storytelling through gorgeous pictures.

1,888 Nat Geo NFTs to Celebrate Sunshine

National Geographic chose Polygon (MATIC) for the new nature photography NFT project. For the break of dawn NFTs to see the light of day, Nat Geo partnered with Snowcrash, the NFT art hub, which is set to bring the Web3 community together via exclusive NFT drops and creative studio activities.

Moreover, the exclusive drop of the National Geographic GM: Daybreak Around the World consists of 1,888 NFT art pieces – to commemorate the year of its establishment. The NFT collection contains 16 images by 16 renowned photographers and digital artists.

The 16 splendid pictures of sunshine worldwide are altered in 118 different ways, making the same artwork slightly different from each other, so nature lovers and NFT enthusiasts can pick their personal favorites in varying photo effects. The NFT mint price is 215 MATIC ($223) at press time.

Polygon (MATIC) Shines Bright in Web3

Polygon (MATIC), the #10 by global market cap, set a great example for competitors in 2022 when the carbon-neutral Polygon blockchain managed to seal deal after deal. MATIC partnered with Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO) for the Pride NFT collection, while the coffee powerhouse Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) picked Polygon for their own Web3 venture called “Starbucks Odyssey.”

It was also the only blockchain firm chosen by the Disney Accelerator program. Naturally, the partnership with Disney served as a much-needed reputational boost to host the platform for Warner Music Group’s metaverse project. On top of that, the Magic Eden NFT marketplace added support for MATIC. More recently, MATIC teamed up with Mastercard (NYSE:MA) to help upcoming independent artists.

At press time, MATIC trades at $0.993550, according to CoinGecko. Moreover, the altcoin recently regained the $1 key support level for the first time since November 12th, 2022. Finally, the scaling solution to Ethereum (ETH) just underwent a hard fork, further reducing carbon emissions.

On the Flipside

  • The move by Nat Geo evoked immense backlash from the magazine’s readers.
  • The outbreak of rage comes not only from readers who lack an understanding of the technology.
  • Following the launch, Snowcrash NFT is constantly crashing, making it hard to mint NFTs on the portal.
  • Snowcrash’s Discord is reportedly muted since NFT enthusiasts are unanimously outraged about the bugs.
