Freedom to Accept Cryptos; Media Trade Group Makes Historic Move

As crypto players come to terms with a scathing report released by a widely respected banking outfit, there is some news that counters the arguments made against cryptos.

That news came from the Freedom of the Press Foundation. It announced Monday that it will accept donations in the form of cryptocurrencies. The fact that it is willing to allow for such acceptance shows that it sees them as legitimate.

What’s accepted?

Donations can be made with Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Zcash!

Donations support several of the foundation’s projects that it touts as advancing press freedom. This include SecureDrop, which is an open source whistleblower submission platform used by more than 60 news organizations worldwide.

In a statement, foundation officials note:

We are thrilled to mark our support for cryptocurrency donations with a major gift. Mainframe, a Blockchain company building a network for censorship resistant communication and decentralized applications, has made a generous gift of 1,000 ETH to Freedom of the Press Foundation.

The other news

This news came on the same day that a much-discussed report from the Bank of International Settlements (BIS) was released. The report was scathing of the crypto space, stating that the crypto community lacked trust.

The report even went so far as to state that the sheer volume of crypto mining transactions could potentially bring the internet to a halt.
