“Crypto Queen” Ruja Ignatova Resurfaces for the First Time in Five Years

More than five years after disappearing from the public eye, OneCoin founder Dr. Ruja Ignatova, known as the Crypto Queen, resurfaced in a British government filing.

Crypto Queen Reappears in England

In a London property filing submitted to the British government, the woman infamous for the $4 billion OneCoin Ponzi scheme was listed as a beneficial owner of Abbots House Penthouse Limited.

Dr. Ruja Ignatova, who has not been seen since October 2017 when she boarded a flight from Bulgaria to Greece, allegedly resurfaced to claim the property she purchased under a company name.

Ignatova’s name was listed on a penthouse with an asking price of £12.5 million (before being reduced to £11 million) because of a new rule which required the beneficiary of the said company to also be named in full.

Conflicting Reports on the Listing

A separate report from the BBC links the recent listing to prosecutors in the German city of Bielefeld and not the U.K. law officials.

According to the report, her penthouse was put back on the market for sale because of a court order granted in November 2021. Prosecutors in both countries are also working together to ensure no sale proceeds make their way back to the founder of OneCoin.

On the Flipside

  • As a result of the stir caused by the apartment listing, the property has been delisted from the platforms where it was previously listed.
