Bored Ape Themed Restaurant No Longer Accepts Crypto Payments

    • A crypto restaurant in Los Angeles, California paused its crypto payment options.
    • Majority of customers seem to not care about the new payment option.
    • The crypto market crash greatly impacted Bored & Hungry.

Crypto-theme restaurant Bored & Hungry stopped accepting crypto as a form of payment as the crypto market crashed. Bored & Hungry is a restaurant that embraced the aesthetics of crypto trends, including donning cups and trays with Bored Ape non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

According to Los Angeles Times, Nguyen says he paid more than $330,000 for the different ape-themed NFTs that form the backbone of his restaurant.

Another report from Los Angeles Times says the owner, Andy Nguyen, did not respond to repeated emails from LA times asking about the change. When the publication asked a Bored & Hungry employee, they declined to clarify about stopping crypto payments. They simply said, “Not today – I don’t know.’’

Additionally, when Bored & Hungry was initially launched in April, a staffer told the Times that customers did not seem to care and largely ignored the crypto payment option.

This further led to questions of when did they stop accepting crypto or if the option will ever make a return.

Just as soon as Bored & Hungry introduced their new meat-based and vegan options, the prices only showed in US dollars despite being a crypto-based restaurant.

Customer Marc Coloma said:

Yes, Ethereum is a currency in a way where you can exchange [non-fungible tokens, or] NFTs and stuff … but as far as buying food and all that, maybe not. ” He further said, ” People want to hold onto their Ethereum. They are not gonna want to use it.

Many other customers were interviewed and stated that they do not have much knowledge of crypto, and are simply here for the food. A customer, Richard Rubalcaba said, “I don’t know how [ crypto purchases ] would work with the crash.’’

Fortunately for Bored & Hungry, most of its customers are there only for the food; and most of them do not have a relationship with crypto.
