Blockchain Disruption to Bring Efficiency, Shiptek CEO Says

The much-ballyhooed business "disruption" predicted to result from the widespread adoption of blockchain technology will make things more efficient and benefit a vast range of industries, Eugenio Ynion Jr, founder and CEO Shiptek Solutions, said in an interview for Cryptovest.

Shiptek is the developer of XLOG - the world’s first fully-assimilated blockchain-based end-to-end shipping and logistics platform. It provides solutions to all logistics challenges by introducing a more simplified process and better tracking and security, as well as creating complete documentation of the door-to-door shipment from the country of origin to the country of destination.

“There’s so much negativity when we talk of disruption, but it’s a term coined that has always been used to describe the impact of this global ledger called blockchain. I don’t see disruption as having any negative impact; rather the digitized technology will bring benefit to almost all industries,” Ynion said.

His positive outlook for the nascent technology is also the reason he is offering the services of XLOG free of charge - anybody engaged in the logistics business could register on the platform and use its features “absolutely free.”

He explained that when blockchain was introduced, the question lingering in his mind was whether he would be disrupted or be the disruptor. He concluded that “the only way for my business to grow is to disrupt it."

“It is normal for a businessman to reject the position of being on the side of being disrupted. But how are you going to accept that you are going to be disrupted by this (blockchain) technology? Like in my case, I know that my business will be disrupted, if not today, then soon. How soon? I don’t know although I know it is coming,” he added.

Having decided to be a disruptor, Ynion teamed up with some friends to develop a platform that could improve efficiency. Aside from that, he wanted to create a million jobs.

Disruption has long been around

Ynion explained that the industries to be affected by blockchain should not fret about all the disruption about to happen. After all, technology has always been disrupting the way we live, like, for example, the Internet making the fax machine obsolete, he explained.

The massive adoption of the e-mail has also disrupted mail services, with thousands of mail delivery personnel losing their jobs.

“Look at the freight forwarders - they also disrupted the business of shipping lines because one of the businesses of shipping lines is to sell containers, but the freight forwarders took that away from them,” Ynion said, adding that industries should accept all these disruptions because they are the new norm.
