WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A preponderance of evidence proves the virus that caused the COVID-19 pandemic leaked from a Chinese research facility, said a report by U.S. Republicans released on Monday, a conclusion that U.S. intelligence agencies have not reached.

The report also cited "ample evidence" that Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) scientists - aided by U.S. experts and Chinese and U.S. government funds - were working to modify coronaviruses to infect humans and such manipulation could be hidden.

Representative Mike McCaul, the top Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the report by the panel's Republican staff. It urged a bipartisan investigation into the origins of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic that has killed 4.4 million people worldwide. (Graphic on global cases and deaths) https://tmsnrt.rs/34pvUyi

China denies a genetically modified coronavirus leaked from the facility in Wuhan - where the first COVID-19 cases were detected in 2019 - a leading but unproven theory among some experts. Beijing also denies allegations of a cover-up.

Other experts suspect the pandemic was caused by an animal virus likely transmitted to humans at a seafood market near the WIV.

"We now believe it's time to completely dismiss the wet market as the source," said the report. "We also believe the preponderance of the evidence proves the virus did leak from the WIV and that it did so sometime before September 12, 2019."

The report cited what it called new and under-reported information about safety protocols at the lab, including a July 2019 request for a $1.5 million overhaul of a hazardous waste treatment system for the facility, which was less than two years old.

In April, the top U.S. intelligence agency said it concurred with the scientific consensus that the virus was not man-made or genetically modified.

U.S. President Joe Biden in May ordered U.S. intelligence agencies to accelerate their hunt for the origins of the virus and report back in 90 days.

A source familiar with current intelligence assessments said the U.S. intelligence community has not reached any conclusion whether the virus came from animals or the WIV.

Cmon, just ask anthony fauci. cdc has been contributing funds and spike protein to the development of covid19. Of course fauci deny, its human nature. Both China and US are the culprits that land the world in this state! probably there are some jokers involved along the way as well.
what bull...
What I don't get is why it matters so much to Republicans... how does it help their cause one way or another... after all, whatever happened, happened on their watch. I think it would be better for them if it were the wet market because at least no one can say they failed to prevent this.
Sure they might claim that it was somehow something Obama put in place... but Trump undid so much of what Obama did, that if they are gonna somehow suggest that any reasonable person could have seen this coming then why wouldn't they have done something to prevent this?
Wet market? Please be rational on the most plausible explantion. Fauci has been on CYA mode for 18 months. Southern border still porous, lame strm media still mum on all.

Also, please note, what is especially concerning about Fauci is that he controls NIH funding, so there is conflict of interest among many of the "scientists" that he uses to push his agenda. Basically anybody who receives funding from the NIH - such as academic institutions - can have their funding withdrawn if they go against Fauci. Fauci, being the same guy who a few years ago said that the benefits of gain of function research outweigh the risks of global pandemic...and now he is saying the benefits of mass vaccination with experimental vaccines outweighs the risks.
Sorry for the periods, could not figure out what word this site was trying to censor.
i believe Faucci is a good guy.
In the 1980s, Fauci spread fear that routine household contact could spread HIV because they started to notice HIV cases among chi.ldr.en. This guy has a record of being massively wrong.
Are democrats still trying to cover up for the Wuhan lab and Fauci? LMAO...their entire narrative has completely fallen apart, and they will be paying dearly for it in the midterms and 2024...Biden/Kamala's approval already plummeting, and approval for MSM is at historic lows below 30%. The two institutions with the greatest drop in approval over the past year are teachers and the medical system, and the institution with the greatest increase is police. Keep putting nails in your coffin though.
