Biden to announce new COVID-19 steps ahead of U.N. meeting, surgeon general says

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. President Joe Biden will announce new steps to slow the spread of COVID-19 before the U.N. General Assembly meets, Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy said Sunday.

Murthy did not specify what those steps would be. The next session of the General Assembly opens Tuesday; the first day of general debate will be the following week.

Speaking to CNN on Sunday, Murthy defended Biden's efforts to expand vaccination in the United States.

"There will be more actions that we continue to work on, especially in the global front," he said.

Biden on Thursday said he would require federal workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and mandate that large employers either require their workers to be vaccinated or regularly tested.

Biden said the United States had donated 140 million vaccine doses to other countries. "That's American leadership on a global stage, and that's just the beginning," he said.

Biden should mount major advertising campaigns that help American non-vaxxers see the light about common sense: Covid mutations won't stop until the last Lung and Immune system have been primed to recognize Covid. Meanwhile business recovery is stalled and anti-vaxxers slowly die out.
We will go into another recession due to the anti vaccine crowd. People are not flying and have stopped their traveling. Business will be shutting down again and laying people off. Babies can't be delivered Surgeries are being cancelled. Hospitals are full. and people are getting in fist fights about vaccines and masks. The Government is completely tapped out to finance another round of unemployment and help for businesses.. Stock market will crash. Home prices will collapse. The vaccine resistant strain will become dominate and it will be every man for himself because the Virus is smarter and more resilant than we are. Good luck.
if vaccines aren't stopping the spread they're not vaccines and it makes no difference who has taken it. if it's working then vaccinated shouldn't be impacted by unvaccinated because thats how a vaccine works. the cause would only be in blue states/ cities causing more mass migration to red states. what hospitals are over run? from the data I've seen Israel has the highest vaccinated yet still have highest transmission.

The excess death rate, honestly applied!, isn't that much higher than the 2018 flu season. Florida, AZ, TX, etc, higher death rates have everything to do with the fact millions oldest of the baby boom generations retired there. They are now in their late 70's and eighties. The death rate is going to be higher where millions of boomers retired for years to come; warm weather republican states with low taxes! The liberals blaming the Republican states for lax covid restrictions is fat a lie. They just have millions of very old people, who moved there to live a better lifestyle, before they died.

Most people are vaccinated, including myself, and therefore have almost zero risk of serious illness according to the experts, so time to move on.   Biden and the ruling Democrats should face the real issues and problems instead of using the pandemic as a distraction.
The real question should be is what is the Surgeon General paid and is he worth it?
Well, if the vaccine is that effective.  I am sure you, Mr. President, and your administration must be fully vaccinated.  Please walk into any Covid 19 ward known with the most seriously ill patients in the country and visit them for half a day with no protection at all, because you've said those who are fully vaccinated will not get Covid or pass the virus around.  Thank you!
