Trump says U.S. is still talking to China on trade

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday the United States is continuing to talk to China but gave no other details, as both sides tried to hammer out a phase one trade deal ahead of looming U.S. tariffs due next month.

"We continue to talk to China. China wants to make a deal. The question is: Do I want to make a deal? Because I like what's happening now," Trump told reporters at the White House.

Trump last month announced an agreement for an initial trade deal with Beijing but no formal agreement has been released. The pact had initially been expected to be signed by mid-November, but experts now say it could be pushed into next year.

Two people briefed on the talks have said Trump wants deeper concessions from China in order to roll back existing tariffs and cancel additional tariffs on some $156 billion in Chinese consumer goods scheduled to take effect Dec. 15.

On Tuesday, Trump also threatened to raise tariffs if no deal is reached with Beijing.

The ongoing trade dispute between the world's two largest economies have roiled financial markets and threatened global economic growth.

What he meant to say is "im still trying to get powell to back me up if i increase tariffs so the market doesn't drop on my watch and im not accused of domestic and global recession due to a trade war with china and can still win the second term"
The U.S has to even out the playing field Rui thats called "Fair Trade". Also I can assure you there is no recession in the U.S

I thought they said they were very close and deal is expected in Nov....
This man is all the time "clearing the margarita" playing with the markets, with investors and with consumers and companies that pay the bill of tariffs and maybe also with China. Although China is "very long" and with a Confucian patience and is at the end of the street of the games of Mr Trump. In my opinion there will be no agreement before the elections.
Who are the experts?Do they even in the discussion room?Such a good reliable media though.
meaning china will start to back peddle as we gain leverage. china's been ripping the U.S. off and they know it, it hurts our and the world's economy. nobody likes the trade war, but its a short pain for a long term gain. high risk high reward.
Trump likes what's happening now, lol, then why extending Huawei, and why even talking with China
Lower rates, leave a deal on China's table. Take it great if not tariffs remain with lower rates. Someone wake Powell.
Class action suit against the Trump administration for manipulating markets.
Something because he did say that he likes what's happening. What is happening is that the market is suffering because of his nonsense. Who does stuff like this just to make others or the rest of the world stuff because of what he wants to see?
delay tactics, funny how the market buys into this nonsense. it'll come to a brutal reality at some point.
Trump is playing with the investors
I told you guys ... Quarterback Trump does not know how to make a deal. He needs to show some respects to the franchise Quarterback. He is not in the big league yet and talked like he is. That is a recipe for disaster.
Irrational Gambler He Is. Bluffing with China wouldn't cut it.The Donald. The Loser.
Nothing going to happen. The cancellation of submit has bought him more time to play the delay tactics.
trump should be gag ordered to never speak about or tweet about things that swing the stock market on a daily basis. His corruption knows no bounds.
how does pressing china for a better deal to benefit the US make him corrupt? we've been in a decade long bull market and majority has been his presidency
Actually the majority has been Obama's presidency. However, he cannot take credit either. it was the people of this country and its businesses that improved the economy. That said, my concern is the divergent pattern I see with the market making new highs on the monthly chart and the RSI going down. This pattern is similar to the 2008 crash, the 2000 crash, and I think the 1991 crash as well. I hope that does not happen, but I am prepared either way.
