DUBAI (Reuters) - U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry said the United States was hopeful it could work with China to tackle climate change, despite longstanding disagreements that have affected the bilateral relationship.

"Our hope is that we're going to be able to deal with yes, China," Kerry told reporters during a visit to the United Arab Emirates capital Abu Dhabi on Saturday. "President Biden has made it clear and I've made it clear: none of the other issues we have with China -- and there are issues -- is held hostage to or is engaged in a trade for what we need to do on climate."

Sino-U.S. relations have been strained in recent years by disagreements about trade, China's treatment of its Uighur minority, as well as China's actions in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

China has pledged to become carbon neutral by 2060 while U.S. President Joe Biden's administration is expected to announce a new target for reducing emissions at a global climate summit on April 22.

Kerry will take part in a climate dialogue for the Middle East and North Africa hosted by Abu Dhabi on Sunday. The UAE said the dialogue would focus on national and regional preparations ahead of a United Nations climate summit to be held in Glasgow in November.

Kerry said the countries would discuss how to reduce a reliance on coal, as well as how to "raise ambitions" on climate change ahead of November's conference.

"I think the next generations are screaming at us to fulfill our promise," he added.

Absolutely naive in the extreme
What a joke Kerry is... He's a laughing stock... 😅🤣😂
America needs to stop paying chinese labor and move their money to india, a more friendly, smarter, trust worthy country.
google had a search bar mr wong
Please move your money to india quickly ! We chinese will be happy! Haha
The facts are... China has the best infrastructure, supply chains, labor force and technology that there is no place that can replicate them on a large scale... China has spent trillions and trillions building this up over decades, so it is very hard to find a competitor... even South Asia like Vietnam, those factories are owned by chinese...
Polticians are puppets who leach off the taxpayer. They do literally nothing good for society.
You sure dont show that in all your posts promoting china cupcake
China, Russia, Iran, North Korea: the new axis of evil.
facts are facts mr wong.
I usually give real facts that can be looked up... I don't spit propaganda like you...
you spit out chinese state media propaganda every day david, and your facts only represent what the chinese state media want you to show
Chinas continued efforts to cause hostility to try and distract its growing angry and frustraited oppressed population grows every day. Their populations see the lives, jobs, homes, and vehicles Americans have and see how much their government is failing them more every day.
Give us proof and examples to back your statements...
Running around spending millions on “climate dialogue” and meetings only results in self glorification for the likes of Kerry. They will solve nothing, and if they accomplish one thing it will be to make everyone poorer, except themselves and their corporate supporters.
Chinas continued threatening peaceful people and populations who want to be left alone and to peace with their hit lery language and actions should be a concern for everyone. Their threats to the people of Taiwan, Hong Kong, Xinjiang, and ocean that is not their territory and neutral have to end today. They need to end their aggressive and hostility and stop building islands to invade ocean that doesnt belong to them. Like anyone stealing, theyll find their hands get cut off
give proof... we waiting...
learn to uae google and stop watching chinese state tv. There are thousands of articles of proof
China is always ready to work on climate change... China is at the forefront in tackling climate. US needs to stop trying to destabilize China using Hong Kong, Taiwan, Xinjiang, and the South China Sea. Just doing some research on YouTube can tell us a lot on why we try to destabilize China... that does not help in international relations...
China is destabilizing themselves. They need to leave those people who have been at peace alone and stop their threats and aggression, and stop slave labor. Instead of treating Xinjiang people properly with proper pay instead china restricts any work from them now. This is as evil as it gets
You are wrong... stop reading our Fake News and propaganda machines... Hong Kong is much more safer today, Taiwan has always been a province of China, China has ancient map of the 9 dash line which include the whole South China Sea, Xinjiang is full of lies from Adrian Zenz... people there get paid really well, and they use Deere tractors to pick all cottons, not use human labors... just research on YouTube...
ancient map 9 dash line lmao. What a load of garbage you cpp slug
They’ve gotten hoodwinked by Iran & every country in the world, China repeatedly. And again countries are lining up to take advantage of our senile, inept, corrupt leaders because they know our leaders are senile, inept & corrupt!
Get these dinosaurs outta here
China can and will provide western fools with unlimited amount of lip service regarding “climate change”. Of course, folks like Kerry do the same domestically and so the difference between communist regime in Beijing and fascist state in DC is about negligible in this and many other respects.
Kerry doesn't know up from down
Have you ask him that... of not then you don't know if he knows or not...
