We’ve all heard of certain infamous scams before. Popular hoodwinks include love scams, where someone on the Internet pretends to be someone they’re not as a way to get money from an unwitting beloved (a la Catfish). Another common one is the SSI scam, where someone pretending to be from the government calls and asks for your Social Security number.
These scams harm millions of people a year, but a lot of us are wary enough to avoid them. However, there are some scams that have become so commonplace and accepted, we don’t even notice them. From digital processing fees when you use your Visa or Mastercard to social media influencers trying to sell us garbage, you need to be aware of these “normalized scams” so you can avoid them.
