Does anyone have a clue why banks instead of raising rate of required reserves keep raising interest rates? Both limit supply of cash to the market which should fight the inflation. However, first one affects financial institutions which needs to offer better conditions for deposits and the second one affects consumers. Am I missing something? It feels like this is deliberate action to destroy middle class(I am not fan of conspiracy theories btw but what the f?)
Ok, but in order to decrease consumption we can encourage people to put their money on bank's deposits. Now, it is not attractive because banks have tons of cash to use and interests are silly. When rate of reserves increased, in order to be able to lend money, banks would have to encourage people to keep their money on deposits by increasing it's interest rate. Does it make sense?
lol, no people do not save and reduce consuption... only way it to raise interest rates on all their debt (credit cards, mortages ect..) to make them suffer and reduce consuption involuntary
hmm good point. Classic trap, consume and spend and when you do too much we will squeeze you because now we want you to stop
