... highly unlikely you will see $15 UVXY, or a 100% gain from $7.50. UVXY is VX (vix futures) that is weighted, or leveraged. The whole purpose of VX is so that the VIX market maker can quickly HEDGE large numbers of VIX calls and options. As you follow VIX you will see that at times, it may measure 13.00, while the front month VX futures contract is 14.00, while the next month is 15.00. See the built-in COST of the hedge (insurance) for VIX. Yesterday, the spike, saw PARITY as VIX rose, so did VX, but that type of trade suggests market participants aren't thinking there's much more volatility to be hedged, or that the options market maker is getting squeezed on the call options.
if you can, go over to VX and look at the prices of Feb, Mar and April futures contracts. Today, the UVXY manager sells some March, then rolls some of the money to buy April. Again, this is done EACH day M-F. Each day, the prices and spreads between March and April can also vary. As more time passes, as you've seen from UVXY $15.00, it's all the monthly contract rolls, which have deteriorated your way too long buy and hold strategy.
The only way this goes back to that level is a reverse split. Your money is pretty much gone.
