norway, sweden and denmark should have a look at the swissair situation in 2002.... a rescue with concessions from the unions would have cost a fraction of the damage of the bankruptcy. i assume eventually lufthansa will turn up and buy the shop at rock bottom

filing for chapter 11 came earlier, but its not that bad, as riksbankbsaid, it a stop to fix the engine and continue. the most important that this strike doesnt last for long time since it costs 10 million usd/ day for SAS

there is an obvious problem with the salaries in the airline industrie allover the world.... so i am wondering, why do the not just an charge for staff, as they do for petrol. i assume all passengers who want to go on holliday would pay an additions eur 20 - 30.-- and the problem would be solved.
it is not that easy, another airline gave agreements with oilit in asian or eastern headquarters and the salaries are much lower than the european agreements, if sas will compete it will compete with other airlines with low prices, any increase in prices will take out customers to other airlines that have cheaper prices and cheaper salaries. not reaching an agreement and having low cost future staff is good for ling term run, bad for the comming two months. if they want to have +ve pe ratio they should not agree on the unions demands actually.
SAS has been plagued with a strike culture. Polits have striked 6 times in the last 12 years. It not only the pilots but also the rest of the employees. Company has usually been bailed out by the governements. But now the patiens seems to be over. So the management is probably has no chioice then to see it go bust, if the Unions do not change attitude. This stock is a gamble. If the unions do get their act together stock may recover to 1,5kr or SAS will go bust. I think the Unions will get their act together and governments will support further opperations. Having a reliable airline is very important. Business can not rely on lowcost airlines.
