Democracy has more complex decision making than dictatorship. So decision-making in a democracyis slower and it can look confusing sometime. But democracy can learn from previous mistakes and is moving towards better results. A dictator surrounds himself with bootlickers, rejects critical voices and thus he cannot learn from mistakes.

Russia was able to fight in World War I for 3 years, then Russia suddenly collapsed. The Soviet Union was able to fight in Afghanistan for 10 years, then the SU collapsed. Russia seems to be still strong now, but that could suddenly change. Changes are often unexpected. It would be great if the war ended soon, but it looks like it will take some time, even though we know both sides are exhausted.

Yes, it is very painful for both sides. Russia has more resources. Ukraine has more motivation because if they lose, they disappear. We don't know the outcome of the war, but we do know that one day it will end and there will be huge losses. It is a great disaster caused by one dictator who only wants increase his imperium.

Russia had big reserves before war. They spend reserves to keep echange rate stable and they have big war spending. If they exhaust all reserves, then ruble can fall fast. So it will be better to turn rubles into more secure asset.

CBR does very little interventions and reserves are staying stable with slight growth of +$14.5 bln since beginning of October. And CBR usually does interventions to lower Ruble. Current rate is mostly driven naturally by trading balance, not by monetary policies.

Nobody forces to sell "reserves". There is no even a thing called company reserves. There are assets and equity. Nobody is forced to ditch them. There are governmental and oligarchic exporters that are transferring export revenues to local market, which is absolutely common all around the world, especially in western countries. But it's not even applicable to private business and definitely there are no any enforcements in place to sell any assets and equity.
