Last week was very interesting for AUD with a massive 150pip drop against USD.   It will be interesting to see at what level the buyers return, the overall commentary is bearish so traders may hesitate at taking long position. Overall Australian exports are doing well and this should create demand for AUD as these companies bring back their earnings into Australia.   Housing in Australia is slowing down and this may result in a slowdown in retail spending and pressure on bank balance sheet from defaults.   In the medium term 3 months, the economy is likely to continue growing and should provide support for AUD to move higher, however in the long term 6 - 12 months there are quite a few challenges for the economy (major being a house price drop) and this will result in AUD going lower.

Not sure from where you have copied the text from, however the numbers you quote are seasonally adjusted numbers. I am not disputing the numbers, just the conclusion that you are drawing from them that the exports are somehow slowing. Also AUD has been higher when it has had significant trade deficit in 2014 AUD was ~90 cent and that year the total trade deficit was A$10bn. In 2012 the total trade deficit for the year was A$23bn and AUD was above parity for most of the year.

MrDot https://tradingeconomics.com/australia/balance-of-trade. The reason it was 90c is very simple the carry trade as the Interest rate was higher and as a stable currency . more than the EM currencies yeah you could get 6.5% on lets say the Argentinian peso but do you want to go there. Also the stand and see policy that the RBA has taken only may see a hike in Q2 2019 . when the rate differential will  1.25% in favor of the U.S by then .  But as the currency deflates we both know that Inflation increases

KovanTraderHi Kovan, , I am not blaming anyone. Just frustrated with the fact that some of these currencies doesn't hold value as well. USD is dominating the market right now, so I guess most of the other majors are down in the ditch - especially Euro.

You do realize the trade war talk is just journalist who are trying to make a buck on the news. When the data is in the US economy will be a lot better. You can day trade on news, but long on facts is to buy USD.

It may continue moving downwards to reach 0.7320..However, the scenario that Implies further decline may be cancelled if the price breaks the upside border of the cloud and fixes above 0.7620. In this case, the pair may continue growing towards 0.7675.

In response to your earlier post, I'm doing alright, yourself? Been busy lately hence my absence. Yeah, mid 60s, I've been saying it for a while. I'm glad to see the daily MACD has finally turned bearish, that month-long retracement was getting wearing. Looking at the monthly chart with Bollinger Bands, looks like a serious drop is coming, should touch the bottom band this month and possibly below. Not much change on the computational front, still showing mid 60s as a near-term target. Looks like the MAs have crossed on the monthly MACD. All looks bearish to me.
