Weekly Cryptalk, Episode #14:

We’re back with our weekly crypto news digest after a few special episodes during the holiday season. In case you missed our special year-end podcast '10 crypto predictions for 2019,' it’s not too late to catch it on Spotify, iTunes, or your favorite podcasting service.

First, Ethereum Classic (ETC) experienced a 51% attack which resulted in multiple block reorganizations on the Ethereum Classic chain. I discuss what it means for ETC, for the future of cryptocurrencies, and explain how you can protect yourself from getting caught up in an attack (begins at 02:38)

As well, this past week, US-based crypto exchange Kraken released a report on law enforcement data requests specific to cryptocurrencies in 2018. The report outlines which countries and agencies submitted the inqueries, and gives us an idea of what to expect from law enforcement in 2019. (begins at 07:19)

And speaking of law enforcement, news broke last week that Anne-Elisabeth Falkevik Hagen, the 68-year-old wife of Tom Hagen, a Norwegian real estate billionaire was kidnapped last week. The ransom demand? 10 million dollars in Monero (XMR), a privacy oriented cryptocurrency. We'll talk about the case, Monero itself, and its use in criminal activities (begins at 12:01).

Last, the seven-day average for the number of daily Bitcoin (BTC) transactions has reached a one-year high. Is this a turnaround point for flagging digital currency? (begins at 17:42)

Join us each week for a new edition of Cryptalk with Clement Thibault. It’s released every Sunday.
