Germany recently announced that it will not block Huawei from its 5G mobile networks. Germany's decision defies the US request for a total ban of the Chinese telecom equipment maker and likely strains US-German relations. It also cuts off Germany from US intelligence sharing data since it was offered as an incentive for the ban. The US claims that Huawei collects and returns data to its intelligence agency without consent or permission of its users. Obviously, Huawei has read the playbook of how to do business from major US technology companies.
While the US is straining relationships, China is attempting to build them. China attempt to BRI, the modern version of the silk road, is raising some eyebrows of concern in the United States.
