Carpenter Technology Corporation (NYSE:CRS) said that it has initiated the production of Cartech Puris 5+, market’s first high-strength, low-oxygen titanium powder solution.

The new powder solution has customized composition of Ti-6AI-4V that complies with all Grade 5 specifications and signals a breakthrough in additive manufacturing sector. It enables manufacturers to have a better control over oxygen content which is inherent to their processes, without compromising the strength of powder.

Balancing strength properties with desired oxygen levels is a challenge in additive manufacturing. Cartech Puris 5+ optimizes the powder’s strength and recyclability. This improves the usage of low oxygen powder (which maximizes powder reuse) while exceeding standard strength requirements. Cartech Puris 5+ is the company’s first major powder product introduction since its buyout of Puris, LLC earlier in 2017.

Carpenter Technology is well-poised to provide value-added solutions to customers, owing to its extensive metallurgical expertise, and quality powder products.

Carpenter Technology’s shares fell roughly 3.7% in the last six months, outperforming the Zacks categorized Steel-Speciality industry’s decline of 5.8%.

Carpenter Technology delivered a strong performance in the third quarter of fiscal 2017 (ended Mar 31, 2017), on the back of improving market conditions and continuing execution of Carpenter Operating Model which delivered additional efficiency gains. The company also saw improved demand in the aerospace market.

The company is expected to gain market share and is well placed for growth as activity levels continue to improve in the North America. The company also remains on track with the integration of titanium powder buyout and its new titanium powder applications and capabilities are gaining traction in several of its end-use markets.

Moving ahead, the company remains focused on improving operations and leveraging on improved demand across end-use markets and increasing prospects in the additive manufacturing space. Carpenter Technology also noted that backlogs are growing as the company leverages on solution-driven approach to expand market opportunities and customer-base. Overall, the company is well-positioned to enhance profitability on the back of accelerated revenue growth.
