TOKYO (Reuters) - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Friday it was difficult for now to revise the armament-renouncing article 9 of the country's pacifist constitution, Kyodo news agency said.

Abe made the comment during the recording of a TV news program, Kyodo reported.

Abe said in January he wanted to win a two-thirds majority between his Liberal Democratic Party, junior coalition Komeito party and like-minded opposition parties in an upper house election, slated for July, to enable him to revise the U.S.-drafted constitution.

A formal amendment of the constitution requires approval by two-thirds of both houses of parliament and a majority in a referendum. Abe's ruling bloc already has a two-thirds majority in the lower house.
