United Kingdom stocks lower at close of trade

Investing.com – United Kingdom stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Beverages and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.28%.

The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were TUI AG (LONDON:TUIT), which rose 1.78% or 19.00 points to trade at 1089.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Weir Group (LONDON:WEIR) added 1.73% or 32.00 points to end at 1883.00 and Sports Direct Intl Plc (LONDON:SPD) was up 1.69% or 12.00 points to 723.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Coca Cola HBC AG (LONDON:CCH), which fell 3.26% or 40.0 points to trade at 1188.0 at the close. Barratt Developments Plc (LONDON:BDEV) declined 2.23% or 10.50 points to end at 460.50 and Taylor Wimpey Plc (LONDON:TW) was down 2.10% or 2.90 points to 134.90.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1053 to 919 and 423 ended unchanged.

Shares in Coca Cola HBC AG (LONDON:CCH) fell to 52 week lows; falling 3.26% or 40.0 to 1188.0.

Gold for February delivery was up 0.46% or 5.50 to $1189.60 a troy ounce.
Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.81% or 0.43 to hit $53.70 a barrel, while the February brent oil contract fell 0.36% or 0.20 to trade at $57.12 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 1.42% to 1.5356, while EUR/GBP rose 0.73% to 0.7822.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.73% at 91.31.
