Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Banking and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.76%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Berkeley Group Hldgs (LON:BKGH), which rose 3.46% or 93.00 points to trade at 2783.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) added 2.76% or 43.00 points to end at 1602.00 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) was up 1.74% or 32.00 points to 1870.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN), which fell 2.96% or 19.500 points to trade at 639.000 at the close. Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) declined 2.63% or 1.57 points to end at 58.08 and Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) was down 2.45% or 225.000 points to 8960.000.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1146 to 1027 and 434 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was up 1.46% or 19.40 to $1346.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.11% or 0.05 to hit $44.39 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.57% or 0.75 to trade at $46.88 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.98% to 1.3435, while EUR/GBP fell 0.18% to 0.8365.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.85% at 94.93.
