Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Engineering, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.68%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Compass Group PLC (LONDON:CPG), which rose 1.57% or 16.00 points to trade at 1034.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Associated British Foods PLC (LONDON:ABF) added 1.47% or 46.00 points to end at 3184.00 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LONDON:LSE) was up 1.24% or 30.00 points to 2455.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Smiths Group PLC (LONDON:SMIN), which fell 4.16% or 47.00 points to trade at 1082.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LONDON:FRES) declined 2.72% or 16.50 points to end at 590.00 and J Sainsbury PLC (LONDON:SBRY) was down 2.68% or 6.200 points to 225.000.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1080 to 1048 and 426 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.16% or 1.80 to $1117.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.40% or 0.19 to hit $46.96 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.72% or 0.85 to trade at $48.90 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.26% to 1.5533, while EUR/GBP fell 0.03% to 0.7286.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.14% at 95.37.
