Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil & Gas Producers and Industrial Engineering sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.44%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 2.20% or 18.30 points to trade at 848.80 at the close. Meanwhile, BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) added 1.97% or 18.60 points to end at 963.30 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) was up 1.71% or 46.00 points to 2737.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW), which fell 4.53% or 7.00 points to trade at 147.70 at the close. Weir Group PLC (LON:WEIR) declined 3.21% or 47.00 points to end at 1418.00 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) was down 3.06% or 13.400 points to 424.100.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1191 to 897 and 492 ended unchanged.
Shares in Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) rose to 52-week highs; up 2.20% or 18.30 to 848.80.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.22% or 3.05 to $1360.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 3.63% or 1.51 to hit $40.09 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 3.29% or 1.43 to trade at $42.10 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.20% to 1.3201, while EUR/GBP rose 0.21% to 0.8465.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.08% at 95.61.
