Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Forestry & Paper sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.21%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF), which rose 3.42% or 101.00 points to trade at 3051.00 at the close. Meanwhile, HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) added 1.94% or 10.600 points to end at 557.500 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 1.90% or 3.15 points to 169.15 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which fell 5.59% or 100.00 points to trade at 1690.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 5.54% or 30.00 points to end at 511.50 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was down 4.78% or 41.00 points to 817.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1078 to 1029 and 495 ended unchanged.
Shares in HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) rose to 52-week highs; up 1.94% or 10.600 to 557.500.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.53% or 7.05 to $1320.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.06% or 0.50 to hit $46.48 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.40% or 0.69 to trade at $48.76 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.15% to 1.3085, while EUR/GBP fell 0.18% to 0.8523.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.46% at 95.97.
