Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Food & Drug Retailers and Construction & Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.02%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 2.44% or 29.50 points to trade at 1237.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) added 2.19% or 29.00 points to end at 1355.00 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was up 2.17% or 29.00 points to 1363.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Berkeley Group Hldgs (LON:BKGH), which fell 3.77% or 96.00 points to trade at 2448.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.96% or 38.00 points to end at 1244.00 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) was down 2.42% or 5.30 points to 213.40.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1310 to 964 and 469 ended unchanged.

Gold for December delivery was down 1.93% or 23.35 to $1187.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.19% or 0.09 to hit $48.12 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.08% or 0.04 to trade at $49.16 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.20% to 1.2449, while EUR/GBP fell 0.88% to 0.8477.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.62% at 101.72.
