Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Construction & Materials and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 declined 1.18%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Royal Mail (LONDON:RMG), which rose 3.58% or 18.00 points to trade at 521.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Weir Group (LONDON:WEIR) added 3.36% or 65.00 points to end at 2002.00 and easyJet Plc (LONDON:EZJ) was up 1.57% or 25.00 points to 1616.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Fresnillo Plc (LONDON:FRES), which fell 3.54% or 27.00 points to trade at 736.00 at the close. Randgold Resources (LONDON:RRS) declined 3.52% or 168.00 points to end at 4611.00 and CRH (LONDON:CRH) was down 3.11% or 57.00 points to 1776.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1828 to 822 and 458 ended unchanged.
Gold for August delivery was down 1.41% or 17.00 to $1187.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.36% or 1.41 to hit $58.31 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 2.66% or 1.75 to trade at $63.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.46% to 1.5399, while EUR/GBP fell 0.44% to 0.7065.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.91% at 97.34.
