Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Chemicals and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 lost 0.90%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Royal Mail (LONDON:RMG), which rose 2.78% or 13.70 points to trade at 507.00 at the close. Meanwhile, BT Group (LONDON:BT) added 1.49% or 6.65 points to end at 453.50 and ITV Plc (LONDON:ITV) was up 1.16% or 3.10 points to 269.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Johnson Matthey (LONDON:JMAT), which fell 3.12% or 100.00 points to trade at 3100.00 at the close. Aggreko (LONDON:AGGK) declined 2.75% or 42.00 points to end at 1486.00 and Aberdeen Asset Management Plc (LONDON:ADN) was down 2.27% or 9.70 points to 416.90.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1857 to 741 and 428 ended unchanged.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.03% or 0.40 to $1180.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.22% or 0.74 to hit $60.03 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.24% or 0.81 to trade at $64.31 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.29% to 1.5563, while EUR/GBP fell 0.07% to 0.7247.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.17% at 94.81.
