Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Beverage and Tobacco sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 declined 0.80%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Associated British Foods (LONDON:ABF), which rose 2.64% or 78.00 points to trade at 3028.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Fresnillo Plc (LONDON:FRES) added 2.57% or 19.00 points to end at 759.50 and Weir Group (LONDON:WEIR) was up 2.43% or 48.00 points to 2024.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ashtead Group (LONDON:AHT), which fell 3.53% or 41.00 points to trade at 1120.00 at the close. WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LONDON:MRW) declined 3.39% or 6.00 points to end at 171.00 and Astrazeneca Plc (LONDON:AZN) was down 2.66% or 119.50 points to 4372.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1681 to 923 and 485 ended unchanged.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.08% or 0.90 to $1189.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 3.40% or 1.96 to hit $59.64 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.49% or 2.19 to trade at $64.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.30% to 1.5270, while EUR/GBP rose 0.69% to 0.7198.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.16% at 96.97.
