Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Forestry & Paper and General Industrial sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.24%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Royal Mail (LONDON:RMG), which rose 3.90% or 18.70 points to trade at 497.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Taylor Wimpey Plc (LONDON:TW) added 2.67% or 4.70 points to end at 180.40 and 3I Group (LONDON:III) was up 2.59% or 13.00 points to 515.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were CRH (LONDON:CRH), which fell 2.86% or 54.00 points to trade at 1837.00 at the close. St James`S Place (LONDON:SJP) declined 2.29% or 22.00 points to end at 940.50 and Mondi Plc (LONDON:MNDI) was down 1.86% or 25.00 points to 1322.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1331 to 1234 and 465 ended unchanged.
Shares in Taylor Wimpey Plc (LONDON:TW) rose to all time highs; gaining 2.67% or 4.70 to 180.40. Shares in 3I Group (LONDON:III) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 2.59% or 13.00 to 515.50.
Gold for June delivery was down 0.68% or 8.10 to $1180.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.37% or 0.22 to hit $59.17 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.94% or 0.62 to trade at $65.54 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.94% to 1.5602, while EUR/GBP fell 1.52% to 0.7142.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.27% at 95.16.
