Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, Automobiles & Parts and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 2.66%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LONDON:GLEN), which rose 14.08% or 11.3000 points to trade at 91.5500 at the close. Meanwhile, J Sainsbury PLC (LONDON:SBRY) added 13.82% or 31.700 points to end at 261.000 and Tesco PLC (LONDON:TSCO) was up 6.95% or 11.9000 points to 183.2000 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Fresnillo PLC (LONDON:FRES), which fell 0.84% or 5.00 points to trade at 591.50 at the close. BG Group PLC (LONDON:BG) added 0.15% or 1.400 points to end at 951.000 and Persimmon PLC (LONDON:PSN) was up 0.45% or 9.00 points to 2008.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1628 to 591 and 374 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was down 1.12% or 12.60 to $1114.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.27% or 0.12 to hit $45.35 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.59% or 0.28 to trade at $48.52 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.16% to 1.5127, while EUR/GBP fell 0.57% to 0.7384.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.42% at 96.47.
