Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Beverage, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Tobacco sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.42%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were SABMiller PLC (LONDON:SAB), which rose 19.89% or 599.50 points to trade at 3614.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Glencore PLC (LONDON:GLEN) added 5.19% or 6.6500 points to end at 134.7000 and Aberdeen Asset Management PLC (LONDON:ADN) was up 4.43% or 14.20 points to 334.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mondi PLC (LONDON:MNDI), which fell 4.67% or 69.00 points to trade at 1409.00 at the close. Inmarsat PLC (LONDON:ISA) declined 1.96% or 20.00 points to end at 1001.00 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LONDON:LSE) was down 1.86% or 46.00 points to 2425.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1416 to 710 and 464 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was up 1.73% or 19.10 to $1121.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 5.27% or 2.35 to hit $46.94 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 4.09% or 1.96 to trade at $49.70 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.00% to 1.5497, while EUR/GBP fell 0.62% to 0.7296.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.40% at 95.37.
