Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Food Producers, Financial Services and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.06%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF), which rose 8.89% or 227.00 points to trade at 2780.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) added 6.51% or 9.700 points to end at 158.600 and Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) was up 5.82% or 16.40 points to 298.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which fell 4.58% or 92.00 points to trade at 1916.00 at the close. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) declined 4.48% or 435.00 points to end at 9280.00 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) was down 1.26% or 13.00 points to 1019.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1531 to 586 and 403 ended unchanged.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.63% or 8.55 to $1358.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 3.29% or 1.56 to hit $45.87 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 3.24% or 1.58 to trade at $47.22 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.11% to 1.2917, while EUR/GBP fell 0.20% to 0.8567.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.17% at 96.29.
