Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Household Goods & Home Construction, Media and Food & Drug Retailers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.98%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Taylor Wimpey PLC (L:TW), which rose 3.76% or 6.70 points to trade at 184.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Barratt Developments PLC (L:BDEV) added 3.58% or 20.000 points to end at 579.500 and St. James`s Place PLC (L:SJP) was up 3.52% or 34.00 points to 1000.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Anglo American PLC (L:AAL), which fell 7.70% or 34.80 points to trade at 417.20 at the close. Glencore PLC (L:GLEN) declined 3.62% or 3.4000 points to end at 90.5800 and BHP Billiton PLC (L:BLT) was down 2.55% or 22.30 points to 853.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1366 to 682 and 481 ended unchanged.
Shares in Anglo American PLC (L:AAL) fell to 5-year lows; falling 7.70% or 34.80 to 417.20. Shares in St. James`s Place PLC (L:SJP) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.52% or 34.00 to 1000.00. Shares in BHP Billiton PLC (L:BLT) fell to 5-year lows; losing 2.55% or 22.30 to 853.50.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.18% or 1.90 to $1071.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.79% or 0.34 to hit $42.53 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.18% or 0.55 to trade at $45.58 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.29% to 1.5126, while EUR/GBP fell 0.38% to 0.7030.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.05% at 99.73.
