Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Electrical, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.61%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 4.45% or 29.70 points to trade at 696.90 at the close. Meanwhile, International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (LON:ICAG) added 3.64% or 19.50 points to end at 555.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 3.56% or 52.000 points to 1513.000 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which fell 4.71% or 8.6500 points to trade at 174.8000 at the close. Weir Group PLC (LON:WEIR) declined 2.68% or 31.00 points to end at 1126.00 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) was down 1.74% or 24.50 points to 1385.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1294 to 783 and 469 ended unchanged.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.65% or 8.05 to $1251.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.77% or 0.34 to hit $44.38 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.99% or 0.45 to trade at $46.03 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.23% to 1.4550, while EUR/GBP rose 0.43% to 0.7782.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.07% at 94.38.
