Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking, Electrical and Construction & Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.50%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS), which rose 5.71% or 11.300 points to trade at 209.100 at the close. Meanwhile, Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) added 4.59% or 9.95 points to end at 226.75 and HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) was up 4.36% or 27.300 points to 654.000 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which fell 3.90% or 48.50 points to trade at 1194.50 at the close. Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) declined 2.88% or 89.00 points to end at 3004.00 and Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) was down 2.58% or 215.000 points to 8135.000.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1269 to 1011 and 417 ended unchanged.
Shares in HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) rose to 52-week highs; up 4.36% or 27.300 to 654.000.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.62% or 7.35 to $1169.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.99% or 1.03 to hit $50.76 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.87% or 1.03 to trade at $53.91 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.44% to 1.2676, while EUR/GBP fell 0.08% to 0.8446.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.42% at 100.58.
